Little Ruby Table Topper

Hello, Friends!

I have a little table topper to share today.

I made it from a Mini Charm pack of Little Ruby

by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.

I didn't have a pattern for this table topper,

but I was definitely inspired by Sherri from A Quilting Life.

She wrote this post in her "Simply Small Quilts" series,

showing a sweet way to lay out the squares on point.

I had just received my mini charm pack,

and I just "needed" to make something with it.

I cut some a whole bunch of 2 1/2" white squares,

and in almost no time I had the quilt center finished.

I really LOVE the way that many designers

use a color palette that blends one fabric collection

with other lines that they've produced.

It makes it so easy to finish precut projects,

even when you don't have yardage from the same line.

I used a fat quarter from Hello Darling

to create a mitered border.

There were only a few squares left over

from the mini charm pack.

I used those to make a pieced backing.

I chose a piece of blue scallop fabric from

the original Ruby line, for the rest of the backing.

For the binding, I chose a bias stripe

from a fat quarter of Hello Darling.

I think this topper looks pretty on the front...

and on the back, too!

{I really love pieced backings...don't you?}

Sometimes you just feel the need to create.

Those mini charms will burn a hole in my sewing stash,

if I don't make something with them soon.

This project was so enjoyable that 

I would not mind stitching up a bunch of them

into table toppers like this.

Hands and Pot Holders

Hello, friends!

How's your summer?

Mine has been rather too eventful for my taste.

We've had some scary health issues in my family,

and yesterday I joined in the drama by breaking my left hand.

{Sad face}

Still, I'm counting my blessings:

1. There was no blood involved.

2. It isn't my dominant hand.

3. We had just returned from a fun vacation...

which is how I tripped over the suitcase and broke my hand,

while carrying a large basket of...

4. CLEAN laundry.

{Happy face}

Now let's get back to some sewing news...

prior to the Laundry Accident I'd been busy making pot holders!

I really love the Pretty Little Potholder tutorial,

expertly written by Amy at nana Company blog.

I pulled some lime green and cheery red prints from my stash
and whipped up this set in no time.

Cherries make such a sweet kitchen theme, don't they?
I had a piece of fabric called Oh-Cherry-Oh from 
Me and My Sister for Moda.
Delicious!!!

The red and white binding fabric was from the same line.
I used it for the adorable ruffle, too.

The green plaid is from Sugar Hill by Tanya Whelan.
I often use a Frixion pen to mark my quilting lines,
but this diagonal plaid made it really easy to create a grid design.

Tags are fun to create,
especially if you have some fun Japanese ribbon for detail.

The finished pot holders make a great gift
that is functional and fresh.

I love the way every set made from this tutorial looks so different.

Here's another pair I made for a new bride

with a country kitchen.

The fabrics are from Dandelion Girl, by Fig Tree Quilts.
I'm still enjoying the fat quarter bundle I bought to make this quilt.

I made the pair of pot holders similar, but different.
One features gingham, and the other has a pretty tonal leaf print.

The colors are soft and understated,
so I left out the tag detail.

The squishy quilting will make baking even more fun.

That ruffle detail adds romance and style.

Soon I'll be sharing more pot holders and other projects...
I can blog with one hand tied behind my back!

An Easter Present for Everyone - Bunny Garden Tutorial

Bunny Garden is perfect for springtime and beyond...

wouldn't these fabrics be lovely for a baby's nursery,

children's clothing, or a baby gift?

My sister Susie at Susie's Sunroom

 has created the most charming baby gift set,

made up of a soft toy, a pillow and a book.

{I am definitely going to steal copy this idea! I am admitting it now.}

Sweetwater Hometown Reversible Table Runner

I've got something fun to share with you today!

Remember those snowball-styled blocks 

for a Jump Ring quilt that

I showed you in this post???

Well...I used eight of the finished blocks to make

this fresh new table runner!

{Fabrics are Hometown, from Sweetwater for Moda.}

I selected some texts, polka dots and stripes

in red and gray, alternating light and dark blocks.

For the finishing touch,

I used a diagonal plaid print

from Sweetwater's Feed Company line.

It's just so yummy, bundled up in this sweet roll.

Can you believe it?
This table runner is actually reversible!

I hand-stitched the binding neatly,

thank goodness!

The backing is also from Feed Company...

a recipe text print!

I think I'll try at least one of these recipes out someday.

I didn't quilt the runner heavily,

and personally I prefer it that way.

I did some straight line stitching

but left the centers of the rings unstitched.

The fabrics are so pleasant,

and I like the way they are featured

in these large blocks.

I love the way these "modern" fabrics look

with my vintage tins...

and I'm sure the table runner would really set off

a contemporary dining room, too.

I have some more blocks left over,

so I think I'll make at least one, maybe two more table runners. 

This particular one is now up for sale

in my shop on Etsy, eamylove.
